The Royal Grand Hall of Buddhism,
the Head Temple of Nenbutsushu Sampozan Muryojuji Temple
The Front Gate
On both sides of the gate stand the statues of Vaisravana and Virudhaka made by Mr. She Guo Ping, a living national treasure of China. Vaisravana and Virudhaka, together with Dhrtarastra and Virupaksa, are called the Four Guardian Kings protecting the Dharma. Vaisravana holding a reliquary high with his sturdy arm signifies the importance of frequent listening to the Dharma discourses, as it is of paramount importance in Buddhism to first listen to and then practice the teachings of the Buddha. Virudhaka holding a diamond pounder for shattering earthly desires suggests that people should practice the Buddhist way humbly without conceit or pride.
